My Annual Holiday to Knysna: Knysna has always been and always will be one of my favourite places to visit! I first fell in love with Knysna when I was 7 years old. It’s a small town nestled between mountains, lush forests and shimmering estuaries and lagoons. The entire town boasts a romantic sort of atmosphere that you just cannot help but love and enjoy. Whenever I visit Knysna, there are a few places that I just have to visit each time!

My first stop has to be Fat Susies! It is situated right next to the old library and boasts such a romantic atmosphere with tables right on the street under tall oak trees. Their pasta’s, breakfasts with homemade jams and their cakes are to die for. After feasting on a delicious meal, we head off for some shopping along the main road and around the Pick ‘n Pay centre. The fantastic thing about Knysna is that all the great shops are situated in close proximity in one sort of area. The clothing shops are a must to visit for anyone who is looking for something different and unique. Jazz bands are always playing in the middle of the Shopping area making it such a pleasant shopping experience.

My next shopping spot is the Waterfront. The view from here is spectacular! The restaurants here are ideal and boast the best of both worlds: fantastic food and a great view. From the waterfront, we like to go on a boat ride out to ‘The Heads’. This is always such an awesome experience!

The gorgeous restaurants overlooking the magnificent ‘The Heads’ is the next stop for some fantastic Apple Pie and coffee. The view here is truly exquisite so we always take plenty of photos. For some awesome snorkelling, there is a spot right here that we enjoy visiting. The water is warm and enjoyable and there is a wreck nearby.

Another awesome restaurant I love visiting is Illdepai on Thesen Island. The owner is Austrian and boasts everything there is to know about making delicious breads. I am a bread fanatic and it is my biggest weakness. When we first walked in I was completely swept away by the rows of different sweet and savoury breads and pastries waiting for me. I enjoyed their homemade gooseberry jam on bruschetta bread and their unique muesli breakfast. Afterwards, I gave in to temptation once again and purchased a tea loaf. This tea loaf is absolutely delicious! It is a sweet bread filled with raisins and sweet orange peels covered in sugar! In fact, it was so delicious I devoured the entire loaf on my own!

Enjoy foccacia with olive oil and pasta at the romantic The Lemon Tree or any one of the other superb restaurants. There is a cinema but the view here is too magnificent to be in doors. During the holiday period, every Saturday there is a farm festival where all sorts of delicious goodies, wines, cheeses, foods, pastries are for sale. The kids can run around and enjoy pony rides whilst you sit around the fire.

When in Knysna, we love to simply take a drive until we eventually stop at a secluded spot around the lagoon and just admire the awesome view. When the sun is out, the entire lagoon is illuminated and shimmers! We enjoyed long but beautiful hikes in amongst the lush forests and visited numerous waterfalls.

There is plenty to do and enjoy in Knysna. It is a truly magnificent town with such a lovely atmosphere that every year, we return!
