Family Holiday in Franschhoek: Most South Africans travel outside our borders and across the seas to experience culture, good food and wine. On my very doorstep I found the ambience of French culture steeped in South African history. It made me warm inside and taught my girls the value of a family holiday filled with laughter, discovery and relaxation.

About an hour and a bit drive out of Cape Town, lies Franschhoek. A little town that bustles in July around Bastille Day and lures tourists from across the globe to savour their cuisine and enjoy their exquisitely-made tipple - wonderful stuff. Best you find a bed to lay your weary head after a feast of wine, bread and cheese in this piece of heaven. A stop at Reuben's is a must. Our family found its resting place at the Rose Cottage.

Its beautifully appointed rooms welcomed our girls (aged 10 & 7) as warmly as they did their parents. (Mom, breathed a sigh of relief!) The Stable is a two bed-roomed converted stable (hence the name!) which opens up into an open living area with a lounge and dining-room. Both rooms are en-suite. A private pool, sun deck and recliners completes an already perfect area to relax. It works so perfectly for families.

Our wonderful holiday was spent relaxing and sharing some of the most amazing memories that I am very sure our children will never forget. Now, just to get passed the continuous question... "Mom, when are we going to Franschoek?"
