Affordable yet comfortable shared accommodation in Dullstroom (Mpumalanga Highlands), South Africa. Escape to the highlands, only two hours by car from Gauteng en-route to Kruger National Park you can find yourself in the Trout fishing "Mecca" of South Africa.

Our safe, virtually crime-free village of Dullstoom, is nestled between hills and trout rivers above the Mpumalanga escarpment. Don't miss the opportunity to stay at Tumbleweed Backpackers. We are conveniently situated between the best of both worlds on the edge of "town" yet amidst wide open country spaces.

Dullstroom is one of the highest altitude villages in the country and Tumbleweed is conveniently situated on the edge of the village, yet only a short 5 minute walk into the village centre.

Accommodation


Tumbleweed is a cute open plan upstairs studio / dorm (6 sleeper: 2 double bunks and 2 single beds) with open plan dining kitchen area. We boast the best country views from the studio of open wetland / grass lands with trout dams in the distance below the nature reserve and Grootsuikerboschkop mountain. There is a TV set with full PVR satellite DSTV channels. There isn’t a patio, but lots of lawn and a little round thatched gazebo.

Facilities


Fully furnished and equipped for self-catering but should you prefer to eat out, then take your pick from many delightful restaurants and pubs (a brewery coming to town soon) in and around Dullstroom.

ACTIVITIES


We are renowned for the best trout fly fishing in the country as well as by top Olympic runners for high altitude training venues. There are plenty of other fun and exciting adventures to be had in and around Dullstroom area including day hikes / walking either to visit the quaint arts & craft shops, multitude of restaurants and pubs in and around the village or the exquisite country side on our doorstep.

There are a variety of interesting day drives and tours. Pendlehill Dairy Cheese & Wine and Restaurant, pleasant 21km country drive, Crystal Water Mampoer Museum, birding and wild flowers, Verloeren Vallei Highland Nature Reserve and more.

DIRECTIONS:

From Gauteng (Johannesburg or Pretoria)
Take N4 Eastwards past Witbank and Middleburg (or from the East travel N4 West to Belfast).
Take Belfast off ramp and follow signs into town, go through a few stop streets until you see Dullstroom sign to the right.
+ - 33ish Km’s into Dullstroom, past BP garage and upper village shops
on left, thru 1st stop street and straight down hill into the lower
village through 2nd stop street.
Look out on left for a stone walled restaurant called “Pickles and Things” and turn left into Lethabo Street (formerly Gunning St.), keep going past the Post Office on left, over crest of hill, the paved road becomes a dirt road, descend to bottom of hill straight across the last intersection (Schoeman St.) and immediately turn first right into our entrance = the last house on right with half stone and white walls and green roofs.
Reception is at the main house on the right (Wildways) and Tumbleweed Backpackers is up the stairs, left of the Garage doors.
