DESCRIPTION:

Rock-a-Bye Bed & Breakfast is situated on a working Macadamia nut farm 10 km’s from Hazyview, in the scenic Sabie River Valley, in a low risk malaria area. Our climate is sub tropical with hot summers and mild winters.

Rock-a-Bye is ideally situated to visit the Kruger Park, which is only 20 minutes away from us. Three gates are close by, Phabeni, Numbi and Paul Kruger gate. Self drive or get us to arrange an open vehicle safari for you, with a guide, morning, afternoon, full day or night. Kruger is a low risk malaria area so take the necessary precautions.

We are also the ideal base to explore the Panorama route, which includes Blyde River Canyon, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Pilgrims Rest, Gods Window, and all the lovely waterfalls. Visit the Shangana Cultural Village to experience the culture of the local Shangaan tribe.

ACCOMMODATION

Relax in comfort and tranquillity in one of our three private thatched African style rondavels, or our thatched family cottage. Rock-A-Bye is owner run, by Lynda and Warren Bartholomew.

The Rondavels
The three rondavels are set in an indigenous bushveld garden. All have twin three quarter beds, en suite bathroom, kitchenette, and private deck with a view. All rondavels are air conditioned, with heating and cooling, as well as ceiling fans. There is a stocked mini bar fridge in each rondavel, and there are barbeques at each unit. Tea and coffee is provided in all rondavels, including the family cottage.

The Family Cottage
The family cottage is set in the indigenous bush. It consists of two en suite bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, and the other with twin three quarter beds and two single beds in the lounge. Each room has its own wooden deck, one that is in the treetops. There is a lounge and dining room, fully equipped kitchen, and barbeque facilities. The cottage has a well stocked library for those who like to read and fans are provided for those hot summer nights. There is an open air shower on the “tree top” deck for the more adventurous. The cottage has a lock up garage.

FACILITIES

A small plunge swimming pool is available for all guests, set in the garden by the rondavels.

BREAKFAST

A wholesome farm breakfast is served on the wooden deck of the main farmhouse, overlooking the dam with its interesting bird life. A packed breakfast is provided for those early starters.

Please note that a continental packed breakfast is served in your room on Sundays, for you to enjoy at your leisure.

THE FARM

Activities on the farm include a short walk through the farm and down to the banks of the Sabie River. We allow fly fishing for yellowfish in the river. Watch out for crocodiles and hippos. Bird life is abundant for those bird watchers, with some specials like Narina Trogons and Pied Mannikins.
