DESCRIPTION:

The Merry Crab is a secure, informal holiday hideaway carved out of the lush, tropical Admiralty Reserve and only a pathway away from a beach so pretty, film-makers have used it for movie sets! The Merry Crab is among the most ideal locations from which to experience one of nature's greatest mysteries.

Fringing the Indian Ocean the resort, set in 4050 square meters of sub-tropical coastal forest, is approximately 75 paces from one of the prettiest and most unspoilt beaches along our coastline - a 15 minute drive from Margate Airport (direct 80 minute flight from Johannesburg International), an 80 minute drive from Durban International Airport and only a 10 minute drive from 3 championship golf courses.

Secure and secluded, it is unique in concept and was designed with attention to detail and utmost privacy in mind. The surrounding area is habitat to a myriad of birdlife as well as numerous species of antelope, monkey, genet cat, monitor lizards etc.

Strategically positioned to take best advantage of the Indian Ocean, the (bachelor pad) STUDIOS, the (1 bedroom suite) CASITAS and the (2 bedroom, 2 bathroom) CABANAS are especially designed for coolness, their white walls and 'stone-flagged' floor interiors, cool in contrast to the mud-tinged (cornflower blue door and window) exteriors.

Large paddle fans lazily stir the air inside while a faint sea breeze is always apparent on the private wooden sun-decks. The terracotta tiled roofs, obscured by wild palms and giant strelitzia, impart a feel of our Indian Ocean islands.

ACCOMMODATION

Fully equipped, you can be assured of superior beds, ample crisp white linen, cornflower blue bath towels, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, stoves, microwaves, fridges, kettles, toasters and satellite TV, built-in braais and hammocks.

Every bedroom has its own built-in wall safe and remote control for the automated entrance gates. Secure parking is provided within a 'camouflaged' electric fence surrounding the resort.

A STUDIO is one 'L' shaped room (like a bachelor pad), with en-suite shower (bath on request), 2 single beds (queen-size bed on request), DSTV (bring your own smartcard), compact kitchen galley with bar fridge, sundeck and private braai / BBQ.

A CASITA is a one bedroom suite, with en-suite shower, 2 single beds (king-size bed on request), separate open-plan kitchen and living area with loungers, DSTV (bring your own smartcard), sundeck and private braai / BBQ.

A Studio and a Casita together form a CABANA when the two foam-insulated doors linking them are opened. A Cabana is a two bedroom apartment with 2 en-suite showers (bath on request), 4 single beds (queen and/or king-size beds on request), separate open-plan kitchen and living area with loungers, DSTV (bring your own smartcard), sundeck and private braai / BBQ.

The Boma

A 'Potjie Boma', a thatched enclosure with a cobbled fire place is ideal for parties, braais and potjies, especially in inclement weather. Large braai (BBQ) stands for groups are also utilised for beach braais, golfing parties and other touring groups.

Facilities

Hidden high amongst the ancient (and protected) Milkwood trees is a birders' hide, a 'tree-house' which is also an excellent "look out" post for spotting whales, dolphins, ocean going liners and sailing vessels.

As well as the reception (computer, printer etc), there's a furnished foyer and lapa lounge under thatch which also houses a cosy bar and kitchenette adequate for breakfasts or light meals. Wild I'lala palms tower over the adjoining salt-chlorinated pool, a sapphire by night, giving the illusion of an 'oasis'. The 'Heads', a quaint guest loo and change room is there for guests' convenience.

The resort enjoys tremendous good will, clearly apparent by the comments in the 'Guest Book' and many guests return time and again.

ACCOLADES & AWARDS

The resort has already been featured on SABC TV, was one of 15 resorts in South Africa chosen by Getaway Magazine as one of their 15th Birthday Bonanza prizes, was 'home' to Leonardo di Caprio's pilots during the filming of Warner Bros production of 'Blood Diamond', has been rated as "Highly Recommended" by the AA (Automobile Association of SA).

The Merry Crab has also been featured in numerous magazines (e.g. pilots, golfers, country and travel magazines) and was awarded 4 Stars by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.
