DESCRIPTION:

The Old Hatchery is situated just 10km from the village of Underberg in the Southern Drakensberg and just 30km from Sani Pass.

You have chosen to come to the most beautiful part of the Drakensberg in KwaZulu Natal. There is nothing quite like Southern Berg hospitality. Our little haven is just 10km from Underberg nestled amongst some hills overlooking rolling farmlands and the Umzimkulu River on the Drakensberg Gardens Road.

Whether you would prefer bed & breakfast accommodation in Oak Tree Guest House or some privacy in your own home-away-from-home cottage or just some time out in a rustic little fishing cabin, we can offer you the perfect solution.

For larger functions, we can sleep a total of 40 people utilizing all of our units. The Southern Drakensberg offers a range of activities that will suit everyone from toddlers to grandparents, for the adventurers and for those who just need some time to chill out.

Restaurant

The Old Hatchery Restaurant is nestled among some beautiful trees at the edge of our trout dam with the waterfall flowing just past the deck into the dam below. We are open daily for dinners – bookings essential. The restaurant is also the perfect intimate venue for functions such as weddings, birthday & anniversary celebrations, retreats, etc

Fishing Cabins

Just on the other side of our trout dam we have 3 charming little fishing cabins that are equipped for 2 self-catering guests each. These units do not have television although they each have their own "bush telly" (fireplace). Please bring your own firewood. Each cottage also has a little wooden deck and braai facilities. When you have parked your car next to the dam, you will need to carry your luggage up the wooden stairs, past the restaurant and over the waterfall (+-150m). The paths are all wooden walkways and lit at night.

Otter's Den

This gorgeous thatch cottage has four en-suite bedrooms sleeping eight in total. There is under-floor heating throughout. Otter's Den is fully equipped for self-catering with open plan lounge / dining / kitchen and has stove, microwave, dishwasher and fridge / freezer. The comfortable lounge has TV and guests are welcome to bring their own DVD player or DSTV decoder. This area leads out onto a covered wooden deck with stunning views over the dam and farmlands and is superb for outdoor entertaining with patio furniture and weber braai.
