Situated just 10km from the village of Underberg in a beautifully picturesque area of the Southern Drakensberg in KwaZulu Natal, Ridgedale Trout Farm offers self-catering accommodation in tranquil surroundings.

Accommodation


The self-catering accommodation at Ridgedale consists of 5 fully equipped and serviced cottages, 4 overlooking the trout dam. The 3 studio cottages sleep 2 each, while the 8-sleeper cottage (Dragonfly) is available for larger, more relaxed groups. Added to this,we have an upmarket thatch house (Otter’s Den) which accommodates 6 people for the guests who require a little taste of luxury.

Together with Oaktree Lodge, Ridgedale Trout Farm is also ideal for large gatherings, either family reunions or company weekends where you can spend some time bonding. We can accommodate up to 30 people on a sharing basis.

Activities in the area


Horse Riding can be enjoyed at Khotso Horse trails, which is just next door to us. Enjoy riding through forests and over hilltops with stunning views of the mountains and farmlands.
The Southern Drakensberg boasts some beautiful scenery which can be seen from a birds eye view should you decide that Paragliding is something you want to try.

River Rafting & Tubing is most enjoyed in the summer months and is conveniently done on the stretch of the Umzimkulu River just in front of Ridgedale Trout Farm. Trips up Sani Pass go up everyday and are led by well-informed guides. For this your passport is essential, as you will enter into Lesotho to have lunch at the highest pub in Africa at the Sani Top Chalet. Guided Quad Tours can be arranged from Sani Pass Hotel.

We have trout in our own dam and bass in the dam across the road from us for excellent fishing experiences. We have 3 lovely golf courses nearby. There are local pubs, restaurants and tea gardens in the nearby villages of Underberg and Himeville.

DIRECTIONS:

From the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban, take the R617 at Howick and travel towards Uunderberg. Drive straight through the village and turn right onto the Drakensberg Gardens Resorts Road 4km past Underberg. Travel another 6km and the Oak Tree Lodge sign is on the right. To reach Ridgedale trout Farm, go past the Oak tree Lodge sign and you will then see the Ridgedale sign on your right.
