DESCRIPTION:

KwaNyoni Cottages offer a unique concept in accommodation; imaginatively transformed from old stables and a farm building, these three eclectically decorated self-catering units are set on a tranquil agricultural property with panoramic views over the Umgeni Valley between Howick Falls and the Albert Falls Dam.

Accommodation

Each unit has two-bedrooms and two bathrooms (one en-suite) and a fully equipped kitchen. The lounges are spacious and comfortable with large glass sliding doors onto private patios to take advantage of the stunning views. One of the units is wheelchair friendly.

The arrangement of units will also suit travel, sport and other types of group, as a total of 12 people can be accommodated in the three units. Six couples, for instance, can stay together but enjoy privacy with their own bedroom and bathroom.

Conference / Event Facilities

An added attraction is the big barn on the same property, which measures 24m by 12m. This is suitable for conferences or workshops, weddings, exhibitions and any number of other events. It offers facilities like a spacious kitchen, and a full set of male and female toilets. Any special kitchen equipment may need to be hired.

Location & Attractions

What sets these cottages apart, however, is their location, perched 200 meters above the Umgeni valley. The views cover 8km of the valley with its pristine indigenous vegetation, and stretch a great deal further towards Greytown. The valley contains three game reserves and, with binoculars, a variety of game including buffalo, giraffe and rhino can be spotted. The cottages are thus ideally suited for nature lovers seeking uniquely peaceful and quiet accommodation in a unspoilt setting only 15 minutes from the capital city of KwaZulu Natal.

KwaNyoni is advantageously located for business visitors to Pietermaritzburg, which is only 15 minutes away. It is a mere 7km from the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban, and thus convenient for those wishing to explore the Midlands Meander. Hilton College is only 3km away, and St. Annes only 9km distant. Michaelhouse is a short drive up the N3, and a slightly longer drive takes travelers to the Drakensberg resorts. Durban is one hour away.

Because the property’s boundary with the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve is unfenced, guests can enjoy close sightings of small game such as many types of buck, hare porcupines, leguaan and zebra. The birdlife is outstanding – in particular the raptors (at least eight types), which can be regularly observed patrolling the cliffs, often below one. The summertime atmospherics are riveting, with mist often pouring over one’s head down to the valley - or billowing up from the valley. The stars shine brilliantly, while the only sounds guests are likely to hear at night are the cries of jackal and zebra. Guests may also follow a game path to our dam with its excellent bass fishing.
