DESCRIPTION:

Twice awarded South Africas Leading Spa in 2009, Fordoun boasts an oasis of relaxation and sensory bliss. This Five Star Boutique Hotel offers a conveniently located destination, luxuriously appointed rooms, friendly service, a superior fine dining restaurant, and a conference centre ideal for smaller groups. At Fordoun we believe that health begins with the mind and spirit. Life aught to be enjoyed and the experience of a guest staying at Fordoun should leave the guest feeling positive, de-stressed and energized.

This owner run Hotel and Spa was built into and around an original 1860s settler homestead and barns plus the 1950s dairy, manager’s house, garages and cattle sheds. The overall design and layout are intended to retain a sense of history combined with modernism. Wherever possible, old materials have been incorporated within the development.

Accommodation

Spacious peaceful rooms are individually themed, each with luxury bathroom and private verandah. The rooms are divided into two categories, deluxe and luxury, they all have king size beds, a writing desk, 2 armchairs or a couch, coffee table, a separate changing area with a hair dryer, a with a safe, a minibar with fridge, tea and coffee facility, under floor heating, a DVD player and 10 DSTV channels are available. Deluxe rooms either have dam views and private patios or are much bigger rooms.

Dining

Skye Restaurant is a fine dining establishment set in the heart of The Natal Midlands, incorporating the beauty and luxury that is The Midlands into our menu and restaurant. In the past year, we have been awarded with 2 Chefs Hats by Portfolio Places and been listed in The BOE / Moet en Chandon Top 100 Restaurants in South Africa.

The restaurant at Fordoun serves modern classical cuisine using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible from our surrounding farms. Skye Restaurant is open to our guests and the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

Conferencing

The tranquil conference venue is ideal for smaller managerial conferences. The conference room can accommodate up to 60 delegates cinema style or 34 delegates boardroom style. Fordoun is popular due to the service the group will receive, as we only have small groups we can afford specific attention on individual and group requests.

For teambuilding, the Karkloof Canopy Tours is very popular but so is the fishing. We have some of the best local trout fishing waters, and can arrange tuition or group activities. Walks and mountain biking are also popular team building activities which can all be done on Fordouns 300 hectare property.

The Spa

The Spa features acclaimed treatments such as the rasul (a Turkish steam and clay treatment room), a saline flotation pool, heated swimming pool, outdoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and sumptuous couples’ treatment suite with hydrotherapy bath, vichy shower and hydrotherapy room.

Bask on loungers in sun-soaked courtyards or savour the silence in the Quiet Room. Unique to Fordoun is the Zulu garden where Dr Elliott Ndlovu, Inyanga and Sangoma, grows over 100 traditional healing plants and where specific Zulu healing inspired treatments, talks and consultations take place. The new herbal range of Ndlovu skincare and lifestyle products may be purchased at the Spa. At Fordoun we believe that health begins with the mind and spirit.

Life ought to be enjoyed and the experience of a guest staying at Fordoun should leave the guest feeling positive, de-stressed and energised. We encourage our guests to eat our sometimes over indulgent (but organic) meals. We encourage them to have a glass of wine or two. Whilst we do provide nutritional and lifestyle advice, we would rather see a guest engaging a sensible diet or exercise regime as an ongoing lifestyle choice.
