DESCRIPTION:

Mike and Jenny Barber invite you to stay in their home away from home set in peaceful surroundings in central Durban North. We offer secure accommodation in a self contained garden cottage with interior design by Jarvis and Jarvis.

Accommodation

The two double rooms, opening onto a private patio, are air-conditioned with showers en-suite, TV with M-Net and DStv, bar fridge and microwave.

We also offer two double rooms with showers en-suite. These are essentially B&B rooms, with air-con, TV with M-Net and DStv and fridge and have tea / coffee facilities. One room has a microwave. These can be combined into a family suite.

Amenities

Secure Parking, Swimming Pool and Braai facilities are available for guests.

Breakfast

There is a choice between Full English or Continental Breakfast and self catering facilities are provided as an option in two rooms.

Location

You will find us on the M12, which is also a bus route to the City and Umhlanga Rocks, within easy distance of all facilities. A varied selection of restaurants and takeaways are in the immediate area.

For Business we are 10 minutes from Umhlanga and La Lucia Ridge, the Durban International Conference Centre and the City Centre and less than half an hour from Durban International Airport.

Attractions Nearby

For Leisure we are conveniently close to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping with its cinema complex, climbing wall, wave pool and entertainment area as well as the Suncoast or Sibaya casinos. As for the famed KwaZulu Natal Beaches we have Umhlanga or the Golden Mile on our doorstep with Umdloti and Ballito a short drive away.

For the nature lover there are trails at the Hawaan Lagoon at Umhlanga or the Virginia Bush Nature Reserve within walking distance as well as an informative visit to the Natal Sharks Board. For the sports lover there are four golf courses within ten minutes with another three half an hour away. Parkhill and Northlands Bowling greens are within walking distance and a tennis club just around the corner. Kings Park Soccer Stadium, the Absa Rugby Stadium home of the Natal Sharks and Kingsmead Cricket Stadium are within ten minutes drive.

Sight Seeing Tours

Sight seeing tours can be arranged to the Umfolosi Game reserve to see one of the Big Five or a trip to one nearby can be combined with a visit to an African Cultural Village. If the timing is right why not chase the Sardines during the annual Sardine Run or catch a boat at Umhlanga and ride near the dolphins.

DIRECTIONS:

From Durban International Airport
Via N2 (Ring Road): Take the N2 from the airport. Travel about 25 kms until you reach the Kwa Mashu Turnoff. (6th Exit) Turn right under the bridge and turn left at the second traffic light after the interchange into Rinaldo Road. (Just after a Caltex Service Station.) Take the third right into Longwoods Drive. At the top of the hill turn right at the traffic light into Umhlanga Rocks Drive. Number 135 is about 500 metres from there at the bottom of the hill on the right hand side.

Via Northern Freeway (M4)
Take the Southern Freeway (M4) into the City. As you approach the city take the Victoria Embankment turnoff. Proceed East until Stanger Street. (8th Traffic Light) and turn left into it. Stanger street becomes the Northern Freeway. Cross the Umgeni River pass the Hypermarket and take the second off ramp after that at Virginia Airport. Turn left and enter the Virginia Circle. Take the third exit into Hinton Place and turn left at the T junction into Margaret Maytom Drive. Follow Margaret Maytom up the hill until the T junction at the top. Turn left into Umhlanga Rocks Drive. Number 135 is about 300 metres down the hill on the right hand side.
