In the picturesque village of Southbroom, beautiful stretches of unspoilt beaches, swimming spots and rock pools all vie with the Golf Course, the animal life - so many birds - and the subtropical vegetation, for your attention. Nestled in amongst the coral trees and cabbage trees, just over the road from Southbroom Golf Course’s 12th green, is Coral Tree Colony B&B - a beautiful new, custom built Colonial-style guesthouse with wide, shady verandahs.

Accommodation

Each of Coral Tree Colony’s six en suite double rooms with separate entrances open onto a private verandah with views down the fairways all the way to the sea. There is secure, off street parking with remote controls.

Comfortable extra large beds - either king-size or twin - have 100% cotton Percale linen. Two of the rooms have an en-suite bath and shower. The remaining four have an en-suite shower. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, a ceiling fan, heated towel rail, TV, bar fridge, tea / coffee tray and hairdryer

Dining

Both Continental and English Breakfasts are served either in the dining room, on the breakfast terrace or on your own private patio. Good restaurants are to be found in both Southbroom and next door in Ramsgate.

Attractions and Activities

Beaches
The Hibiscus Coast has six Blue Flag beaches - awarded for safety, cleanliness, environmental management and beauty - combine this with some of the best all year round weather, excellent surfing and swimming conditions and you’re onto a winner.

Golf
There are eight 18 hole golf courses within easy driving distance, one of which - Southbroom Golf Course is an easy 300 metre, 4 minute walk from Coral Tree Colony. Golf tours and tee-off times can be arranged.

Whale & Dolphin Sightings
Whale and dolphin sightings are almost guaranteed - whales between June and November and dolphins all year round. Since the whaling station was shut down and whaling abandoned in 1975 the occurrence of Humpbacks and Southern Right whales has grown exponentially. Best seen in late June as they make their way to the calving, feeding and breeding grounds off Southern Mocambique, and again in October and November when they head back to Antartica with their new off-spring. A trip out to sea is an unforgettable experience - especially during the annual Sardine Run, dubbed the Greatest Shoal on Earth. Ramsgate Conservancy have recently built a whale viewing platform on the dune in the old part of the village.

Other Attractions & Activities
There are two lovely nature trails in the village. Birdlife is exceptional. Hoopoes, Kingfishers and Purple-Crested Turacos (Louries) are regular visitors to the garden. The red and blue duikers are endemic to the region. Bushbuck are frequently seen on the fringes of patches of indigenous forest. Vervet monkeys abound, with troops of up to 50 members or more - often sighted on the golf course or else heard clambering over the roof. Riverbend Crocodile farm is 2 kms away.

For the adventurous, Oribi Gorge offers spectacular views and extreme sports just 30 minutes away. A number of farm stalls and coffee shops are to be found on the drive south to Port Edward. Travelling north one encounters quaint Ramsgate and Margate with world class shopping facilities just off the highway at Shelly Beach.
