DESCRIPTION:

Situated midway between Johannesburg and Durban in one of the Drakensberg's most picturesque locations is Alpine Heath. The stunning northern Drakensberg as a backdrop, complimented by the Afro-Swiss architecture of the resort, and a comprehensive range of facilities positions Alpine Heath as one of the finest resorts and conference hotels in South Africa.

Alpine Heath is unique in its concept of Alpine chalets, lofts and lodges, each with superb mountain views, scattered around a central village which consist of a restaurant, cosy pub, shop and the conference centre. The leisure and sporting facilities include two tennis courts, a squash court, a fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pools, games room, a "Village Green" and the recently completed Umziki Boma which overlooks a splendid dam.

The unique and tastefully ethnic Boma, which can seat up to 300 people has been designed for a variety of functions and includes vehicle access making the venue an ideal platform for car launches as well as many other functions. The magnificent setting of the Boma on the banks of the Umziki waterhole, with the mountains in the background, stunning African décor and a wide variety of traditional dishes makes this an ideal and spectacular venue for anything from a champagne breakfast to a corporate theme evening banquet.

Accommodation


At Alpine Heath, each of the 100 luxurious chalets is equipped with a telephone, cellular reception and satellite TV, and offers all the privacy you could ask for. The three-bedroom chalets comfortably sleep six in a master bedroom which is en-suite and two double rooms each fitted with twin beds. The second bathroom also has the convenience of both a bath and shower. The comfortable lounge is furnished with a lounge suite, satellite television and a fireplace and leads out onto your personal 'patio in the berg'.

For those wishing to 'self-cater' the fitted kitchen complete with crockery and cutlery is open plan to the lounge / dining room area which also has a dining table with six chairs. The outdoor patio has outdoor furniture and braai / barbeque facilities can be arranged at our reception desk.

Leisure


Once at Alpine Heath you will have plenty to keep you busy, whatever your particular preference may be. Alpine Heath is formed around a Village Square which has a 'Patisserie' - a small shop where you can buy all basic necessities if you are self-catering as well as gifts and curios amongst other knick-knacks. Next door to the Patisserie is the Village Tavern, a sun deck, a games room and a fully equipped gymnasium with a sauna. Also in the Village Square is a Chapel which offers a superb wedding venue.

Conferences


We're proud to offer you outstanding conference rooms. Our largest two, the Arbousset and Lammergeyer (A & B) can each seat up to 380 delegates and the smaller Ngwane Theme Room, Lammergeyer A and Lammergeyer B can seat groups of up to 150. The Sutherland, Gardiner and Kelly Suites, our break-away rooms, all seat at least 10 delegates. The Grantham Boardroom, an intimate boardroom can seat 20 around its boardroom table.

Each fully equipped venue is designed to meet your every requirement. DIRECTIONS:

From Johannesburg
340km - 3.5 hours
Travel to Harrismith on the N3 Jhb - Dbn. Take the N5 towards Bethlehem for 5km (exit 29). Turn left to Phuthatijaba (8km). Turn left onto R74 in the direction of Bergville. Travel past Sterkfontein Dam and down Oliviershoek Pass (35km). As the pass levels out turn right following the sign for Northern Berg Resorts.

From Durban
270km - 3 hours
Take the N3 Durban - Johannesburg. Beyond Escourt, 6km after the Shell Ultra City exit the N3 taking the R74 in the direction of Winterton and Northern Berg. Travel through Winterton (21km) via Bergville (20km) in the direction of Harrismith. 35km beyond Bergville turn left following the sign for Northern Berg.
