Attractions & Activities

Oudtshoorn is the "Ostrich Capital of the World", nestles between the Swartberg and the Outeniqua mountains and is the ideal base from which to explore the many attractions. We are proud of our safe, clean little town. We are situated approximately 20 miles from the world famous Cango Caves. Travelling time through this scenic valley takes about 30 minutes. Open 9:00 to 16:00hr, half hour, one and a half hour and three hour tours are options.

Enroute will pass an ostrich farm where you can ride the world's largest bird; touch a cheetah in Cheetah Land; visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch; the Angora Rabbit Farm where you can hug a bunny; ride a camel at a lovely setting one kilometre from the caves. There one can enjoy the scenery and appreciate the tranquility around you, while enjoying a snack or lovely meal, just sitting out in the open. For those who are more energetic, our area offers some interesting, safe hiking trails.

Scenic Drives

There are many other beautiful scenic drives such as the Swartberg Mountain Pass which is one of South Africa's most beautiful mountain passes. It is awesome! The rock formation is something to see! On the other side you can visit the weaving factory and lunch in a little village, Prince Albert, then return via Meiring's Poort to see the beautiful rock formation and where you will cross the river more than 20 times, before reaching Oudtshoorn and Feather Nest.

To appreciate and enjoy nature at it's best, you need at least two or three nights here. We strongly recommend this if you can fit this in your itinerary.
