The Knysna Golf Club dates back to 1909 and over the course of the last century it has moved only once, in 1953, to its current location on Howard Street.
The course grew from nine to eighteen holes in 1960 and ever since has provided a truly unique golfing experience to lovers of the game. Knysna is one of very few and possibly the only club in South Africa that can boast of its below-sea-level holes and salt-water water hazards.
Tucked away behind the Knysna Heads providing protection from the wind and built on the banks of the Knysna Estuary the course enjoys and tranquil environment that is both gentle on the legs and teems with natural wildlife. The greens on the parkland course have recently been upgraded to some of the finest in the region and offer and incredibly smooth and responsive surface year round.
The tidal pools and channels that meander through 10 of the 18 have made it an exciting challenge and place importance on accuracy as opposed to raw length of shots. Birdlife, for which Knysna is well known, can be enjoyed and there is an abundance of sea birds, fresh water birds, raptors and forest birds.
The club welcomes visitors from all over the country and booking is advised.
