Randfontein Golf Course

Randfontein Golf & Country Club, Homestead Avenue, Randfontein, Gauteng / The small town of Randfontein lies on the greatest gold reef in South Africa and was established in 1929 although its history dates back much further. At the heart of the town lies the Randfontein Golf and Country Club with its Top 100 golf course – a peaceful retreat for golfers and other sporting enthusiasts of the area.

According to legend The land on which the course was built was once a marshland covered in reeds, that was drained in order to find the body of a teenage son of a senior mine official. Whether the story is true and whether the body of the child was found, remains a mystery. But a clear fact is that the course is as popular today as it was in the early 1900’s.

The course was originally designed by the late great Bob Grimsdell and remodeled extensively in 1993 by Golf Data’s Robbie Marshall and Mark Muller. Originally the club was managed by the Randfontein Estates Gold Mine but today, is wholly owned by three entrepreneurs who strive to make the country club a 5-star retreat in the West of Gauteng.

The Course
Randfontein Golf and Country Club’s striking 18-hole parkland course lures golfers from all over South Africa. The course is in mint condition, has lots of character and offers a great challenge to all - especially the demanding finishing holes, which are protected by bunkers, lakes and narrow lanes of bluegum trees. The course is well balanced with six holes favouring a draw, four a fade and the balance relatively straight shots. The par 5's provide for a safe route for short hitters while the long hitters can go for the green in two, but at the risk of doing a bit of swimming or ‘hunting’ on the way.

Notes
For your golfing pleasure the course is open seven days a week, quick meals and refreshing drinks can be enjoyed at the halfway house and our clubhouse offers scrumptious meals and a relaxing vibe in which you can unwind after your game.
