Located in the heart of the Free State, Bloemfontein Golf Course is a superb golfing facility that has for the last 120 years stood the test of time and managed to adapt to the times whilst staying rooted in its traditional heritage.
The course was originally designed by Bob Grimsdell and provided the top Free-State course for many years until recently when the new course, redone by Peter Matkovich, went ahead and surpassed the old courses own former glory.
Many notable tournament and trials have been hosted by the club including South African Opens and the BCG has been host to the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tournament on the Sunshine Tour for the past 5 years. However many still consider the exhibition match between Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus in 1966 as one of the most entertaining of all time.
The course itself is tough. Though, if your short game and putting are firing then your scorecard will keep ticking over happily. Designed to be a real challenge, the BCG remains a fair test of the game and the course designers must be complimented on their efforts. The presence and threat of water is real and the last five holes go so far as rival the toughest in the country so be sure to bring out your best.
