Life on 3rd is a stylish guesthouse located in a leafy and tranquil corner of the cosmopolitan village of Melville, which is conveniently situated in the heart of the Johannesburg Metropolitan area, South Africa.

Life on 3rd is the only guesthouse in Melville that boasts 14 rooms and can accommodate almost any need, whether it be a group, a couple or an individual. It’s a sophisticated getaway from the bustle of the city and a memorable place to stay for the discerning business or leisure traveler.

Guests can expect clean lines, earthy tones and a contemporary chic ambiance when staying at Life on 3rd. Our wooden decked courtyard with casual outdoor seating offers guest the opportunity to soak up the African sun or take refuge under the umbrellas whilst enjoying a novel or just relaxing.

Accommodation


Guests can look forward to a relaxed and peaceful stay in rooms decorated in a fresh understated style of white and earth tones with hints of red. Guests have a choice of a mix of fourteen rooms of five different types of which some are in the main house or with private entrances. All rooms have shared satellite TV and Wi-Fi Internet access.

In house bedroom upstairs with a double bed, colour television, Wi-Fi internet access, in-room bathroom with a shower.

Twin Suite (1 unit)
In house bedroom upstairs with Twin beds, sleeper couch, colour television, bar fridge, coffee & tea, Wi-Fi internet access, ensuite bathroom with a bath.

Deck Suite (4 units)
Private room with a Queen bed, colour television, Wi-Fi internet access, ensuite bathroom with a shower. A glass sliding door from the bedroom opens onto the wooden decked courtyard.

Urbane Suite (5 units)
Rooms with a Queen bed, colour television, Wi-Fi internet access, ensuite bathroom with a shower. Situated in a separate house with private entrance.

Breakfast and Refreshments


Accommodation includes a Continental Breakfast, which is served daily from 7.00am – 9.00am in our communal dining room. Breakfast includes a selection of cereals, Ayshire yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread basket, selection of cold meats, cheese, scrambled egg, preserves, fruit juice and coffee & tea.

Refreshments and dinner from our set menu are available on request. Complimentary coffee and tea is available 24hrs in the dinning room.

Life on 3rd is in close proximity to the famous 7th Street with restaurants, galleries, shops and a vibrant nightlife. Main Road has numerous fast food outlets, restaurants, shops, gyms and banks. Campus Square Shopping Center, Parkview Golf Course, SABC, Media 24, AFDA Film School, Wits and the University of Johannesburg are within a 5kms from where we are located. For nature lovers, Melville Koppies Nature Reserve is a 5-minute walk away.

DIRECTIONS:

From OR Tambo International Airport take the Johannesburg road onto the R24. At the Gilloolys interchange take the N12 Germiston road which continues and becomes the N3 Eastern Bypass. Continue with N3 south and keep left when you reach the Germiston / Durban / Johannesburg at the Geldenhuis Interchange. Take the JHB road onto the M2 west (Roodepoort). Continue for some distance as you pass the city, keep to the left and take the M1 North Pretoria off ramp onto the M1 North. Continue on the M1 and take the Empire Road turnoff keep left. On Empire stay in the middle lane continue past the Holiday Inn on your left and cross over the intersection onto Stanley Road which goes toward the SABC. At the T-junction traffic light intersection turn right into Kingsway. Continue past Media 24 until you get to a traffic light intersection with Campus Square on your right. Turn right into Main Road and continue down past The Boulevard Shopping Center on your left. The fourth road to your right is 8th Avenue. Turn right into 8th Avenue and 3rd Street is the first to your right. The house is on the corner with the red door.
