Elephant Interaction Programmes in Hazyview - this venue has six tamed and trained elephants, varying in ages from eight to nineteen years. Lindiwe, the youngest, is their much loved female. The younger males are Medwa, Talifa, and Shamwari, who range in age from eleven to thirteen years, while Mabitsi, the oldest male, is approximately nineteen years old.

The Elephants were rescued from planned culling operations in Game Reserves by Elephants for Africa Forever (EFAF). EFAF are committed to conservation and to excellence in the taming and training of elephants and their Handlers and Guides. Rory and Lindie Hensman’s kind and gentle training methods ensure the Elephant Handlers and Elephants work together in total harmony. The domestication and training process is achieved by applying the principles of the well tried and proven bilateral ‘ask and reward’ system, wherein mutual trust and respect between humans and elephants are honoured.

Open Vehicle Safaris in a Land Rover are a true ‘Out of Africa’ experience with an elevated view of wildlife and individual seats to ensure guest comfort. We provide blankets for those chilly early mornings, waterproof ponchos to keep you dry in the event of a summer storm and quality binoculars for those sightings just a little too far. Mineral water and fruit juice are available whilst on the vehicle.

Early Morning Wake Up, Interaction and Elephant Back Ride: Meet at sunrise at the elephant stables to wake the sleepy souls and prepare them for the day. Help brush down the elephant and watch their morning exercises. Warm refreshments and a snack will prepare you for a typical elephant ramble; meandering down shady paths, enjoying regular stops for elephant feasting. When your legs need a rest, relax atop one of the elephant and experience the unique relationship the Elephant Handlers enjoy with the elephant. Sunset Interaction, Elephant Back Ride & Sundowners: In the late afternoon, with a comfortable stable in mind and a good meal waiting, the elphants delight in heading for home. Enjoy this afternoon amble with them; walk or saddle-up and enjoy the view from high above the trees. Become a welcome and privileged member of the Elephant group while they peacefully carry out their evening route. Complete a magical experience with a sundowner drink and snack while listening to the sounds of the elephant settling down to sleep. Ultimate Elephant Experience: On arrival your hosts, the Elephants, extend a warm welcome to you! Experience the pleasure of interacting with these amazing creatures and learn about their important role. Saddle-up and set off into the African bush on the back of the Eephant for a wonderful view of your surroundings. During the ride you are able to stop at any time to experience walking with the elephant too. This allows you to get great photographs of the elephant in the bush and interacting with their handlers. The privilege of dining with these large mammals will become a reality as a delicious picnic is spread out before you on the shady riverside bank.
