Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town or Port Elizabeth to Outdshoorn
Leave Cape Town via the Dutoits Kloof Pass, passing through the Breede River Valley area en route to Montagu and The Little Karoo. Pass through the historic Mission Station villages of Zoar and Amelienstein before stopping off for a wine and port tasting session in the port capital of South Africa, Calitzdorp. Carry on to Outdshoorn for either a tour of a local Ostrich Farm, or the Cango Caves, whichever suits the schedule the best at the time.

Overnight: Klein Plas Resort, Outdshoorn

Day 2: Outdshoorn to Storms River mouth,Tsitsikamma National Park
After breakfast visit either the nearby Cango Caves, or an Ostrich Farm, whichever one wasn’t done the previous day, before leaving Outdshoorn. Head over the Outeniqua mountains to the coast via the charming village of De Rust, and negotiating the lesser known Prince Alberts Pass finally emerging along the Bitou River Valley close to Plettenberg Bay. Continue east, pausing a while to view the “human lemmings” throwing themselves into oblivion from the Bloukrans River Bridge, which is the site of the worlds highest Bungi Jump ! End the day at the beautifully situated Parks Board facilities at Storms River mouth in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Overnight: Tsitsikamma National Park, Storms River Mouth

Day 3: Storms River mouth, Tsitsikamma National Park to Knysna
Before leaving this spectacular piece of coastline take the opportunity for a walk to the actual river mouth itself, which is pleasant, but not strenuous. Spend a casual day ambling around areas such as tranquil Natures Valley at the bottom of the Groot River Gorge, and maybe spend a little time wandering along its beautiful beach. Visit the popular holiday resort of Plettenberg Bay, and take a walk around the Robberg Nature Reserve, including the interesting archealogical sight of Nelsons Cave, home to some of the early Strandlopers who inhabited this coastline some 20 000 years ago. Continue through to Knysna centrally situated on South Africa’s second largest Estuary, and “unpack” for two nights.

Overnight: Graywood Hotel, Knysna

Day 4: Knysna
Spend a casual day exploring the immediate vicinity, including a visit to the viewpoints at the “Heads”, and also taking the opportunity to browse around the quaint town centre, and newer mini Waterfront area. Maybe head up into the forestry areas above the town, and take a stroll around the sight of the historic Millwood Goldfields, complete with some of it’s original mine shafts, and mining equipment. Basically, flexible day to do as one chooses. Complete the day in “style” with sundowners and dinner, aboard the Mississippi Paddle Steamer, as it cruises gently around the Estuary on it’s two hour dinner cruise.

Overnight: Graywood Hotel, Knysna

Day 5: Knysna to Cape Town
Return to Cape Town via the Lakes Wilderness area, and the town with the Portuguese influence, Mossel Bay. Travel through the rolling farmlands areas of the Overberg region to the historic town of Swellendam, before detouring via the coastal holiday areas around Hermanus, eventually approaching Cape Town via the beautiful eastern coastline of False Bay.
