Package Tour - Ashtons 5 Day Kruger Walking Safari

Categories: Big 5 / Nature / Walking / Wildlife

On a Kruger Walking Safari you are out there with the African wildlife, sharing their paths and waterholes, the daily drama of their lives, sharing their space. Follow the tracks, feel the tingle of your own senses and hear the beating of your heart as you edge closer to a herd of elephant resting in the shade. At night sleep in an unfenced camp with only the canvas or wooden wall between you and the African bush, breathe Africa! The unfenced camp is private and secluded and not open to day visitors. The camp can sleep up to 8 people in large (walk-in) twin-bedded safari tents under thatch, and large stilted A-Frame chalets under thatch. All accommodation units are equipped with fans and electric points, towels and linen and have en-suite bathrooms with hot / cold showers and flushing toilets. The camp has been carefully designed to integrate with the natural environment and is unfenced, thereby enhancing the wilderness ambiance. Recreational amenities include a remote lounge, traditional dinner boma and viewing deck, splash pool and cosy bar. Catering is an integral part of the walking safari and traditional meals are prepared on an open fire, in conversation with guests. Each safari is accompanied by experienced and armed Trail Rangers and each camp is serviced by a cook and camp attendants. The minimum age is 16 and a reasonable fitness level is required to cope with the walking trails.

Day 2: Ashtons Walking Safari Camp
In the mornings we set off at first light after a snack of coffee and rusks. Enjoying the cool morning air we may walk (weather permitting) directly from the camp or use a vehicle to get further out. Your ranger will decipher the tracks and signs left by the passing animals during the night. The thrill of walking, tracking and getting up close to one of the creatures of bush in an unforgettable experience. On the walks there is a lot of emphasis on the interesting things seen such as trees, plants, insects, birds and animals. A Big Breakfast is prepared back at camp and then there is time to unwind and siesta during the heat of the day. After a light lunch is served it is time to head out again.

Afternoon activity is a walk/drive combination, depending on weather conditions, looking for tracks and activities in other areas. After the walk we drive to a beautiful spot in the reserve where we’ll have sundowners whilst waiting for a stunning African sunset. As the diurnal animals and birds anxiously prepare to sleep, the sounds change and a whole new world awakens. Back in camp a hearty supper and a warm campfire will be waiting for you. After a long day in the bush there is nothing more rewarding than to retire to bed and listen to the sounds of the African night under a blanket of stars.

Day 3: Ashtons Walking Safari Camp
Day 3 will start full of anticipation after the excitement of yesterday's outings. Activities will follow a similar pattern to the previous day, seeking new experiences in the bush and perhaps re-visiting yesterday's sites of interest to note further developments. Different areas of the reserve will also be explored. The evening sundowners and camp fire supper will be enlivened by stories of the day's sitings.

Overnight: Ashtons Walking Safari Camp

Day 4: Ashtons Walking Safari Camp
Day 4 will find us setting out in the early morning with your senses considerably enhanced for the bush experience. The previous two days will have taught you how to seek out the signs of animal movements and to perhaps make actual animal sitings that you would missed on previous days. The camp fire discussions on this last night in the bush will be full of nostalgia as we ponder the day's sitings and experiences and enjoy our camp dinner.

Day 5: Ashtons Walking Safari Camp to Johannesburg
On the last day there is still time for a last walk/drive combination. The typical bush scents will remind you of how much you have learned over the last few days. After breakfast its time to pack up and pay the conservation fee and for any drinks consumed. Then we reluctantly say our goodbyes and transfer you back to meet either the Ashtons Kruger Shuttle bound for Johannesburg or your own onward transfer arrangements from Hoedspruit.
