About the Cape Town Fringe Festival

The Cape Town Fringe Festival is all about fresh new theatre, dance, and comedy by local and international artists. This festival will rock Cape Town and the line-up includes firm favourites like Police Cops (an acclaimed comedy from the UK), and the national debut of a local adaptation of The Gruffalo, especially for the children.

There are other fantastic shows for the entire family too, and these are offered through the course of the Western Cape school holidays. However, they are extremely popular, and those who would like to enjoy them are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.

The tickets are kept affordable (between R40 and R100) and the programme has been extended so that the maximum number of people gets to enjoy this experience. In addition, pensioners and students get discounts, and there are special offers, such as half-price Mondays.

Added to the almost 80 shows, there are the vibrant goings-on of the surrounds. The hub of the festival will be in the Cape Town City Hall. Here, the Fringe Club will have a great line-up of free events and live performances. However, other venues will be scattered throughout the Mother City. Venues include the Alexander Bar, Langa's Theatre in the Backyard and Guga S'Thebe, the Makukhanye Arts Room in Khayelitsha, and the new AFDA Theatre in Observatory.

The inaugural Cape Town Buskers' Festival is part of Fringe and is being held in partnership with the V&A Waterfront. These outdoor sessions can be enjoyed from 6 to 9 October, and including a number of acclaimed local and international public street performers; such as 'Dynamike' from Canada, who has travelled to dozens of festivals around the world, and is renowned as one of the world’s best.

Cape Town Fringe CEO, Tony Lankester, said, "The Cape Town Fringe brings a host of productions to the city that could only be seen at the Cape Town Fringe, collaborations between artists like Maya Spector and Asanda Mqiki - who met at last year's Fringe, a host of Standard Bank Ovation Award winners from the National Arts Festival and some exciting, new and edgy theatre from Cape Town and beyond."
