Ubaniinkunzi Culture & Sports Festival is a premier event, it is the mirror of Southern African performing artists especially those who are still upcoming and were previously disadvantaged or neglected. We are making sure that people retain their pride to feel encouraged to nourish and embrace their own talents, culture and heritage regardless of borders, colour and creed. We are about cultural exchange. This event as it grows is geared to attract tourists and people of different colours from all over the world to come and learn about our cultures as South Africans and yet display theirs. That’s what the festival is about – world in harmony.
Ubaniinkunzi Culture & Sports Festival is an outdoor, rural event, started in December, 2008 with an aim to discover and promote new talent, while preserving our indigenous music and dance of Southern Africa. It is the rural festival that takes place every December 28th to 30th. It starts right after Christmas and ends just a day before New Year at a place called Entababusuku formerly called Donkerhoek, 45 km (West) away from Piet Retief, and 70km (South) away from Ermelo, about 30 Km, (East) from Amersfoort and about 40Km from Wakkerstroom towns of Mpumalanga province, South Africa.
The event teaches you a lot about African culture, music and dance. Besides the traditional music and dance that you get to experience, the festival allows you to enjoy some exciting adventures like swimming in the river, horse riding, cycling, motor biking, hiking, and all sorts of entertainment for children etc. The environment is tranquil and undisturbed natural beauty. Ubaniinkunzi is the family event, held on a huge farm to ensure enough space that anyone can bring his/her whole family, caravan, tents and braai stands, etc, so to enjoy the festival. One may also expect to see a lot of zulu dance, mbube music, maskandi music, fashion models (oswenka), stick-fighting (izinduku) etc. Under the mountains of ENtababusuku area we shall teach you some traditional games i.e. umlabalaba and so many more.
