About the Sani Dragon

Mountain bikers from around South Africa are gearing up to participate in the exciting SANI DRAGON challenge.

This is a two-day cycling event that takes participants through some of the prettiest parts of the KwaZulu-Natal Province imaginable. The Underberg is known for its idyllic situation, right in the foothills of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountain Range. As such, it sets the perfect scene for cyclists to test their skills and endurance while drinking in breath-taking views.

The first day of the race involves a 70 kilometre cycle and includes jeep tracks, single tracks and district roads. The vistas are exquisite. The second day is 60 kilometres long and comprises a challenging, but rewarding climb to the top of Sani Pass. Interestingly, this is the only mountain bike challenge that includes Sani Pass, making it even more special.

There is a DRAGON LITE option for cyclists that want to tackle the event but have not quite worked themselves up for its full scale. Each day comprises a 40 kilometre cycle, and the second day has a relatively easier climb.

The SANI DRAGON challenge will be held at the same time as the annual Underberg Farmer’s Association Agricultural Show. In effect, it forms part of this event as well.

Teams of two are recommended, but riders that want to tackle the event on their own can arrange to do so.

The entry to this race includes a SANI DRAGON cycling shirt, food and beverages, a goodie bag, water point nutrition along the way, medical support, plenty of prizes and a whole lot more.

To avoid disappointment it is advisable to book your accommodation well in advance for this event.
