Where: Pietermaritzburg

Dubbed the safest cycle race in KwaZulua Natal, the 25th annual Amashova National Cycle Classic was held in October 2009, for the first time known as the MTN Amashova National Cycle Classic when the corporate partner came on board. The 106km road race follows a similar route to that of the Comrades Marathon, although a shorter 38km fun ride is also on offer. Held during rather humid conditions, although not Durban’s stickiest time of year, the race starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The MTN Amashova 106km race from the Pietermaritzburg City Hall to Durban takes place on on Sunday, October 16 at 06h30. Alternatively, early birds on the lookout for a sporting chance to enjoy the outdoors and KZN’s beautiful spring weather can sign up for the Sunday Tribune Amashova family fun ride. Starting at Hillcrest High School at 5.45am on Sunday October 16, it covers 38km to finish at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
