Pick 'n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge

The main event will be held on Sunday 15 November and, in its thirteenth year, promises to be a great one, having been voted ‘Road Race of the Year’ for the last three years.

Started by Midrand Country Cyclists (MCC) in 1997 with a field of just 5 500 cyclists, the event has become the biggest cycling race in Gauteng. Last year 27 082 Cyclists took to the roads and we are expecting nearly 30 000 Cyclists this year.

If you thought for a second you’ve gotten to know the scenic 94.7km route – think again. This year race organisers are introducing a new urban loop into the race, which will take cyclists on a 5.6km route through the heart of the Johannesburg CBD.

The new loop has been established to accommodate a change in the existing race route around the Northgate area, which is currently experiencing major development.

The race will also enjoy a new finish this year, on the grassy commons of the Waterfall Country Estate, just off Maxwell Drive. But don’t think this is going to make the race any easier – it remains 94.7km long and will be as demanding as ever.

The Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge supports the Homeless Talk Crèche in Joubert Park. The centre provides daycare for the children of Homeless Talk vendors: with the aim of keeping the children off the streets of Johannesburg, while their parents earn a living.
