Bomvu 10th Cultural Music Festival in Coffee Bay, Wild Coast

The Bomvu Cultural Music Festival of Coffee Bay on the dramatic Wild Coast takes place on the 24th- 26th July 2009. Once again, our local Chief has agreed to open the event and give his blessing to our three day cultural extravaganza.

The beautiful grounds of Bomvu includes our natural rock amphitheatre – the ideal location for our festival creating an amazing musical sound and offering our guests a journey through Xhosa dance, drums and music of Africa.

Our amphitheatre is a natural rock formation staging the artists with the audience located across the Bomvu River on the banks the opposite side. The bar, restaurant, local food stall and craft exhibitors will all be located on the opposite side of the stage with the audience allowing for a great selling opportunity. Fires burn at night while the performers give it their all and one of the highlights is the All Night Drum Marathon using a variety of percussion instruments and welcoming all musicians until the sun rises over the ocean of Coffee Bay.

Our Festival has been gathering pace over the years since the first one held in 1999 and we are again determined to make 2009 another successful event. Last year we not only competed with the Soccer World Cup for attention but attracted over 500 visitors, of which 40% were foreign travelers and 60% South Africans from all over the country. We hope to improve on that this year through the early marketing up and down the tourist trail and through other networking opportunities.

We will continue this year to offer free entry and accommodation to all performers and free accommodation to all craft exhibitors to encourage local and national showcasing of South Africa’s talents. As always, we are keen for our overseas guests to experience these often hidden talents e.g. the Sangomas mystical performance, ethnic African music, drumming and dance groups mixed in with other original performing artists.
