Out The Box Festival of Puppetry and Visual Performance to run at Little Theatre Complex on Orange Street in Cape Town. Hot on the heels of its great success in 2008, UNIMA SA’s fifth international Out The Box Festival of Puppetry and Visual Performance opens in grand style with a festive street parade of giant puppets, with the Little Theatre Complex on Orange Street as the festival hub.

Out The Box is the largest puppetry and visual performance festival on the African sub continent that caters to both adults and children over an eight-day period, with shows running throughout the day and every evening. It additionally includes workshops, talks and exhibitions, all of which happen within a 200-meter radius at the Little Theatre, the Arena Theatre and the Intimate Theatre. Adding to the festive atmosphere of the event, vendors provide delicious food for patrons between shows and there are bars and coffee stalls at all the venues.

Organised by UNIMA SA (the International Association of Puppetry, SA) the festival is headed by a dynamic duo, Janni Younge and Aja Marneweck. Both are producers and puppetry theatre directors who have trained and worked internationally and who are passionate about this unique art form. They will also be staging works on the festival and with the outstanding local and international artists they have secured to provide world class entertainment, Out The Box looks set once again to lead the way in this cutting edge art form.
