The Tribute concert to SA music heroes was launched at the Orlando stadium in Soweto in August 1998, the event is now in it's 16th year.

The only major annual live music entertainment event in the country to exclusively feature South African superstars and emerging musicians and groups. More than 80 legendary musicians and music industry luminaries have been awarded the coveted Tribute Award since the inception of the annual concert.

Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Abdullah Ibrahim and Jonas Gwangwa were the first six SA Music Heroes to be awarded Tribute Awards at the launch concert in 1998.
