Granny Mouse House is a full-service Guest House. Guests may book Bed & Breakfast or Dinner Bed & Breakfast. Self-catering cottages are also available. We are situated in Nutwoods Drive, on the Bluff in Hogsback, within walking distance of many sought-after tourist attractions. Granny Mouse House enjoys the accolade of being the first catered establishment in Hogsback to be awarded a 4 star grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa and AA Superior status. Unsolicited articles which appeared in both Getaway (February) and Country Life (September) magazines highlighting our business, also mirrored the opinion that our food and accommodation are of 4 star standard. ACCOMMODATIONCatered Accommodation - B&B or DB&B: Small, intimate and cosy, we accept a maximum of 6 catered guests at a time, accommodated in two double en-suite rooms, and one twin-bedded, all with pool and garden-facing patios. Each room has been individually furnished in colour combinations that reflect the garden views beyond them. Self Catering Cottages: A further 8 guests can be simultaneously accommodated in our self-catering cottages, 2 designed for 2 persons sharing in each and another for 4 persons sharing a 2 bedroom house on a separate property. This latter house is the only unit where children under 12 years of age are accommodated. The emphasis has been on creating a place of rest and comfort, and in ensuring individual guest privacy, in beautiful environs. DININGBreakfasts and dinners are served around a single ageing, not quite antique dining table and several lifelong friendships have been formed in this manner during the years that we have provided our modest services. We cater for the discerning guest in a sophisticated, yet relaxed country atmosphere. ATTRACTIONSAll the mountains surrounding Hogsback are visible from the property. The gardens have been laid out in the old-fashioned cottage garden style, with interleading “garden rooms” each with its own unique colour combinations and many secluded areas to sit and quietly enjoy them. Roses abound and rare shrubs, trees and perennials are of special interest to the keen gardener. The plantings encourage many species of birds to visit, to the delight of the birding fraternity. HOGSBACKHogsback developed around the establishment of Lovedale College in the early 1800’s, being attractive in the summer months as a cool refuge from the heat of the Alice and Tyume valley areas, to the missionaries who taught there. They would hitch up their ox-wagons and remove their entire households to the forested mountains for a period of rest and quiet respite. The journey would take 5 days from Alice to Hogsback. These days it is easily and quickly reached by car, but the purpose for the journey remains the same. The 33kms from the King Williams Town road take one steeply up the Pass and quickly back in time, to a place which still echoes with the thoughts and tales of JRR Tolkien. And whose dusty streets are still reminiscent of a time when the pace of life was slower. ACCREDITATIONS
