DESCRIPTION:
This bohemian backpackers is located on a hill in the beautiful Manley Flats valley just 20 km from Grahamstown, the cultural Mecca of South Africa. Eco-art using glass bottles and various other materials is the characteristic feature. Grassland with acacia, aloe and euphorbia slopes down to dense riverside thickets.
Wild animals living here are small buck, bush pigs, jackals, caracals, genet cats, porcupines, baboons, small monkeys, huge land tortoises, iguanas and a vast variety of birds ranging from the African fish eagle to minute sun birds.
All buildings are on top of a small hill allowing stunning views of nature and sky in all directions. The cottages are each furnished in different themes: romantic, chaste, afro-kitsch and colonial. The backpackers kitchen is available for self-catering and the bar is fully licensed. Camping options are available.
To be found half-way between Cape Town and Durban Yellow Piano Inn & Burg Lengeling Backpackers is just right to stop over or to stay on for a few days and conveniently explore the nature, wildlife and culture of Frontier Country, Addo Area and Sunshine Coast.
Accommodation
The architecture of the many forts of Frontier Country and towers of Grahamstown inspired the main structures of Yellow Piano Inn at the farm Burg Lengeling. Using contemporary materials concrete and bottle art became a consistent feature. The cottages are each furnished in different themes: romantic or chaste, 'afrokitsch' or colonial. Some of them have en suite bathrooms with showers, TV and tea & coffee facilities, the big bath house is just across the lawn. Self-catering facilities are in the communal kitchen.
Bed & Breakfast, backpackers accommodation and camping options are available.
The Cottages
The Out-in-Africa cottage
The ‘Out-in-Africa’ cottage is a family room; the west wall has a bottle window with a springbok motive. This beautiful cottage has a double bed and an extra bunk bed in a spacious room and provides tea and coffee. A small bathroom with eco-geyser is en suite.
The Villa Sunset cottage
‘Villa Sunset’ is a very romantic cottage with a sunset depicted by a bottle window, which glows in the late afternoon sun. It is furnished with a double bed and has a TV corner with armchairs and a divan, which can be changed into an extra bed. The cottage has a kitchenette (basin, microwave, tea and coffee) and is suitable for some self-catering. It also has a small bathroom with eco-geyser en suite.
The Afrique cottage
The ‘Afrique’ cottage is hidden amongst large plants, which make a cosy patio garden. It is furnished with afro-kitsch style. The main room has two 3/4 beds and another small room has a single bed. Toilet and basin are en suite.
Monastery Cottage
The dormitory cottage ‘Monastery’ is frugally furnished with three single beds and a bunk beds and can sleep up to five people. Its four gothic style bottle windows remind of a cloister.
Camping
Camping is possible on the lawn nearby the bath house or anywhere in the bush.
Big Bath House
The ‘Big Bath House’ offers hot showers, toilets and basins. It is very spacious and is adorned with two very big bottle windows and a mirror mosaic.
Self-Catering
For self-catering a guest kitchen with fridge, gas cooker and microwave is available and we have rustic braai facilities.
Dining
The large ‘Dining Hall’ is home to the Yellow Piano and resembles a chapel with its rose window made of bottles on the one end and two high symmetrical bottle panels on the other end. A wooden staircase leads to an airy loft and a side wing houses the bar, which boasts another huge bottle window. The hall is reserved for functions and fine dining.
