DESCRIPTION:

It is not often that one gets the opportunity to luxuriate in the tranquility of the Karoo countryside knowing that the town centre of Graaff-Reinet is a brief 5 minute drive away. Stephen and Liesl created Camdeboo Manor so that you could experience this calmness and serenity to its fullest.

Luxurious Country Tranquility ...

From the moment you drive through the gates of this small farm a sense of well-being washes over you and the warm welcome makes you feel as if you belong.

Camdeboo Manor is a place to take time out and experience the serenity of the Karoo countryside. Relax on the veranda with a beverage of your choice and enjoy the vast landscape that is on your doorstep. Off the front balcony you have a beautiful view of 1000 olive trees, separated by strips of lucerne, and to the right, a close up of Spandau. The Graaff-Reinet golf course lies just beyond the olive trees, which lead you down to the Sunday’s River.

ACCOMMODATION

Liesl understands what hospitality means, having spent 3 years in the hotel industry in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It was here that she and Stephen collected the unique, and unusual, furniture and décor items that form the central motif for both suites. Carved out of African mahogany, the exotic 4 poster king size beds give the rooms the appearance of a Sultan's private quarters.

They aim to provide their guests with comfortable accommodation as well as a sense of being whisked away to an exotic location where luxury and comfort are the norm.

Facilities in the rooms includes: Satellite TV, Fan, Air-Conditioning, Heater, Electric blankets, No Smoking (Smoking permitted on the patio), King size extra length bed, Free wireless internet, Tea and Coffee Facilities, Hairdryer, Bath, Shower, Linen, Towels and Toiletries.

Dining

It is said that “Karoo food is as limitless as the land – vast, diverse, all consuming. And like the land, the cuisine captivates visitors, enticing them back time and again to experience the culinary delights” (Karoo Cookbook, 2009). Camdeboo Manor allows you a glimpse into this experience, offering delicious homemade pies serves with seasonal vegetables, a selection of home grown steaks and braai facilities at the poolside.

On site facilities include : Fax, Internet Access, Babysitting Service, Laundry Service, Garden, Restaurant in the evening, Braai / Barbecue, Honesty bar, Swimming Pool, Secure off Street Parking, Fireplace on the Premises, Communal Television and Communal Satellite TV, DVD and VCR.

ACTIVITIES

Surrounded by the Camdeboo National Park, Graaff-Reinet, the heart of the “Great Karoo” – Place of Thirst – is a boundless and mysterious area covered by vast sheep and game farms, where broad plains roll away to distant koppies and multilayered mountains that seem to touch the indigo sky. Listen to the silence, breathe in the aged earth and the Karoo bossies (which conjure up the taste of Karoo lamb!), and gaze at a startlingly clear horizon that seems drawn at the other end of the earth. Our clear night skies are studded with countless stars and huge bright planets; even other galaxies are visible with the naked eye, offering some of the best star gazing in the world. Fossils of some of the earliest forms of one-celled life have been discovered here, indicating that life has existed in this region for three billion years. The richness of pre-dinosaur fossils in this region is world-renowned.

Graaff-Reinet, the fourth oldest town in South Africa, is recognized as the home of magnificent examples of Cape Dutch architecture, and over 220 heritage sites (more than any other town in South Africa!). The past is preserved in four extraordinary museums which hold collections of photographic memorabilia, firearms, artworks and fossils, tracing the story of the Karoo - and the town - from pre-history right up to the present day.

We invite you to experience the magic of this area, discover eccentric little hamlets, sprawling farmsteads and the historical town of Graaff-Reinet, populated by warm and welcoming people that love to share their stories and legends.

Activities in close proximity to Camdeboo Manor include Bird Watching, Fishing, Golf, Health & Fitness, Horse Riding, Walking, Camping and Hiking.
