Velddrif is totally undiscovered and only 1 hour 40 minutes away from cape town.
In port owen a boat charter operates called Sandpiper and skippered by Allan-and what a great experience. Affordable and well appointed. The skipper and his knowledge made our 4 hour leisure cruise a high lite. We sailed the known calmest bay on the western cape coastline stopping for lunch at a great harbour fish and chips outlet. This is a not to be missed experience.
We drove up from Cape Town, it was a Saturday in the height of the s with know idea where we would end up.
Using the guide book I phoned 9 people before I found accomodation at Kingfisher appartments..
It was blissful! looking over the river, watching the birdlife. We walked along riverside and had a lovely meal. at one of the local bars. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
Melanie, our appartment courier, all the people at the tourist office, the people in the fishing museum, they all treated us like long lost family.
We stayed for 4 days and we loved it. a haven of peace and tranquility...
I hope we can came back one day.
I had a lovely relaxing weekend away with some friends. The town is small but has a lovely warmth to it. A definite opportunity to escape city life!
