Visitor Reviews of Kalk Bay, False Bay

Review by: Lesley-Ann, Kalk Bay (visited: April 2011)
Kalk Bay is a must see on everyone’s list. This fisherman’s village is a hidden gem in the heart of the Southern Peninsula. It has so much potential with great shops, restaurants, and guesthouses.
There are so many shops to keep one occupied for hours. From Fancy boutique shops to antique shops to amazing art galleries. The theatre has a show on every Tuesday night. We have the best selection of restaurant to suit everyone’s needs right here in Kalk Bay. Pizzas, pastas, curry, fish and chips, seafood, sushi, and so much more. Café Olympia must be the most well-known restaurant in Kalk Bay. With its mismatched tables and chairs with local artists art on the wall to the fresh bread and food they make that want you to come back for more. Polana has great live music from Thursdays to Sundays.
There are a lot of stunning walks that one can hike in the Silvermine Nature Reserve. The reserve is an important conservation area for indigenous fynbos plants and various small animals in the area.
Chartfield Guesthouse is a grand old house which has been standing for over 120 years overlooking Kalk Bay Harbour and False Bay. We have thirteen spacious bedrooms with three different categories. Standard, Deluxe and a Loft Room. Our Standard rooms are non-sea facing whereas the Deluxe rooms have a stunning front sea view. The Loft (Southern Horizon) is our best room. It has its own private balcony and overlooks Kalk bay Harbour and its surroundings areas. We are in the centre of Kalk Bay, within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. We have a pool area where you can let your little ones have a dip in the pool and you can relax on one of the sun lounges with a drink in your hand and catch a tan.
All said. Kalk Bay is a must see for everyone. Local and visiting guests. Kalk Bay is something special that one can take away with them.

I LOVE Kalk Bay - with its working harbour, variety of great restaurants, sweet coffee shops tucked up cobbled lanes, seaside bars and antique shops its the ideal place to spend an hour or a week ... you will always find something to keep you occupied. If you are holidaying in Cape Town make sure you dont leave without a visit to Kalk Bay.

This gorgeous little fishing village is a must-visit for locals and foreigners alike. I try to go once a month, most often to buy fresh fish at the harbour or for a leisurely breakfast / lunch / dinner at one of the gorgeous little coffee shops (love that they're all unique ... no franchises) or restaurants. The ice cream shop is also a favourite.
