Hazyview, Panorama Route

Hazyview is a town in South Africa's Mpumalanga Province which is ideally situated just a few kilometres outside the Kruger National Park.

Hazyview derives its name from the summer haze that envelopes the low bush land. This occurs during the heat of summer season. Hazyview is a small farming town and is renowned for its banana industry. In fact, the area is reputed to have the best climate in the world for bananas and you will see row upon row of these lush tropical plantations. Most of Mpumalanga's private game reserves are found just east of Hazyview. The spectacular panoramas in Hazyview will undoubtedly remain in your memory. There is so much to experience and see here.

Among the many panoramic destinations, many tourists enjoy visiting the Shangana Cultural Village on the R535 to Graskop. Here many delightful goodies and curios can be bought. It is also a rather educational visit where one can gain an insight of the cultures in the area.

One of the most popular activities in Hazyview is to go hot air ballooning over the shimmering valley. The views are truly spectacular and unforgettable! There are also many superb hiking trails and game viewing opportunities.

Hazyview boasts an array of delightful restaurants and pubs. The Windmill Wineshop offers a wonderful selection of wine and good food and for beer lovers, The Brewery and Summerfields Kitchen is not to be missed as they brew their own different beers! There are superb options for accommodation in Hazyview including some fantastic guest houses, bed & breakfasts and excellent hotels. With such tranquil beauty, Hazyview is a must to visit and experience.

For anyone seeking a glimpse of every day Africa as they dash between the Luxury lodges and safaris, Hazyview balances a touristy vibe with real people going about their daily lives. There's Perry's Bridge for a walkabout from the chocolatier and Belgian baker, to quality shops selling Rogue wares, furnishings, silk scarves, curios and bath spa treats. There are excellent dining spots from Kuka to Toppellinos, from The Pioneers Grill and the Fish restaurant as well as an abundance of lodges, hotels, B&Bs and adventure centres so you will not run short of things to do - rain or shine! It's a perfectly placed spot to head into Kruger Park at a choice of 2 gates or to go further afield, to Hoedspruit, White River, Nelspruit or Sabie and Graskop.

We found Hazyview to be a teriffic place to base ourselves in as we were close to the major attractions of the Panorama Route as well it has a great (warm) climate and VERY friendly people who went out of their way to make us tourists feel welcome! AND we were so centrally located to Kruger National Park and Blyde River Canyon. There are some great self drive routes you can do in the area that will have you exploring the area for days on end. Wonderful culture here too. We simply love Hazyview and its people and come back every year! Looking forward to the next!
