Umtentweni lies at the mouth of the Mtentweni River which is named after a species of grass which grows on its banks. Enjoy ocean sunrises on Tweni Beach, long walks, swim, surf or watch the dolphins go by. Umtentweni is Ideally situated only 2 km from Port Shepstone, 10 km from Shelly Beach, with shops, banks, restaurants and all other facilities. Just one hour's drive from Durban and 17 km from Margate, Umtentweni is perfectly positioned to view the seasonal whale, dolphin and sardine runs or passing ships.

Only 80 m from the Indian Ocean and an easy stroll to the main protected swimming beach, Tweni. Life guards are on duty in season. There is a paddling pool which is safe for children and of course the ocean for swimming, surfing and fishing.

Umtentweni is a lovely holiday resort as it is far away from the crowds, yet close by to all the necessary shopping facilities and tourist attractions.
