Close to Howick in the southern parts of the central Midlands, Lidgetton is little more than a quaint trading post that today boasts something of an artists’ community, a café and post office, as well as a surrounding township that has formed around Lidgetton. The pretty pastoral idyll lies on the R103 in what is arguably one of the most appealing parts of KwaZulu Natal, lying as it does in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains - rolling, green hills so beautiful, yet so much a part of the terrain that one can become immune to their beauty a little too hastily.

The other item of note, when it comes to Lidgetton, is its access. The little village manages to promise an immediate sense of getting away from it all - a winding down and beautiful surrounds - yet it is also right on the Midlands Meander, a quirky mix of over 150 places at which to eat, drink, sleep, shop and play; and close enough to Howick to warrant a visit to its famous falls.

Right in Lidgetton is the historical building of St Matthews, definitely worth a visit, whilst local trout fishing in dams and rivers around the Kamberg - about 30 minutes from Lidgetton - is reputed to be excellent. The Caversham Valley provides horse riding opportunities, whilst those after a round of golf have a choice of either Boschhoek or Sakubula golf course. And hiking on river and hill trails in the area never fails to fulfil the expectations of those who come here to drink in the green hills and meandering valleys.
