RANDJESFONTEIN - MIDRAND

Ipe Tombe Guest House in RandjesfonteinRandjesfontein, Midrand:
Randjesfontein is a suburb found in Johannesburg, South Africa. Interestingly, it was chosen by a Voortrekker family who crossed the Vaal River in 1836. The area was initially a large and beautiful farm. The farm has been passed down from father to son for generations. It has seen the Highveld around it give birth to two major cities. Despite this, even to this very day, it has remained exquisitely unspoiled. Sadly, however, due to encroaching cities, the family soon realized their inheritance had to be shared with others. They agreed to a low density development of Country Estates with equestrian activities for a select few which would retain the spirit of Randjesfontein with dignity without it being despoiled by thousands of postage stamp stands.

Today, Randjesfontein is a beautiful little suburb consisting of mainly country residential estates, stunning park areas and large oval tracks where horse racing takes place. In fact, Randjesfontein has become a popular horse racing destination and visited rather regularly. Randjesfontein also boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. A few sites can be explored and discovered including the St Saviour's Church. This church was built from materials salvaged from the St Saviour's Cathedral in Pietermaritzburg. The cathedral was originally built in 1868. It was rebuilt in 1985 and is located among several old conifers. When you enter the stunning church take notice of the beautiful yellowwood ceilings, stain glass and other antique features. This church has become a very popular wedding venue.

Randjesfontein is well known for its large oval grass track of 2100m in diameter. Races over 1000m are run on a straight course; beyond 1000m races are run clockwise round the turn. Here many people from all over gather together to watch the thrilling races that take place here.

Besides the historical sites and race track, why not explore the superb coffee shops and other entertainment facilities in the area. Whilst walking down the streets and through the park areas, marvel at the fascinating architecture and beautiful old trees that truly add to the history and heritage of the area. Randjesfontein is definitely part of South African heritage. Unlike other areas, it has maintained its heritage and remained unspoiled. Take a trip back in time and visit Randjesfontein.
