Gauteng DestinationsKloofendal, West Rand
Kloofendal is a suburb in Roodepoort, which is part of the West Rand of the Greater Johannesburg region. It is less than 30 kilometres from the city centre, which is constantly abuzz with shops, galleries, boutiques, entertainment centres, corporate hubs and more.
In addition to the residential part of Kloofendal, this suburb is the home to the ever-popular Kloofendal Nature Reserve, which covers a total area of 150 hectares and is dedicated to the culture and heritage of the area. It is an ecotourism hotspot that is home to antelope, rock rabbits (locally known as dassies), hedgehogs and plenty of bird species. The dam has a bird hide from where many different bird types can be seen within their natural habitats.
Conveniently, Kloofendal is situated nearby to Clearwater Mall and the Westgate Mall for visitors that need to stock up or those that want to spend their days exploring the many shops of the area for gifts and keepsakes.
As a whole, Roodepoort is known for being the address of the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, which is a definite must for any visitorís itinerary. It was established as a city in its own right in 1977, and continues to expand and develop with time.
