Glen Austin is a suburb on the north eastern side of Midrand, situated approximately half way between Johannesburg and Pretoria. In the 1800s, a Voortrekker named Daniel Erasmus pegged out the area known today as Midrand as his land. On his death, Daniel's grand daughter, Anne Erasmus, inherited the land which included the Glen Austin area. In 1920 she married Mr Eustace Gain Austin and it was from that union that the name Glen Austin came into being. Even though Glen Austin is situated in the fastest growing municipal area in South Africa, known as Midrand, Glen Austin still enjoys a rural atmosphere. It has remained unspoiled and charming. One of its most charming features is that the stands within Glen Austin are all classed as Agricultural Holdings, with none being smaller than 8500 square meters.

There are many keen horse owners and stables amongst the residential plots as well as a dairy farm. It is not unusual to see horse riders gently meandering along the tree lined roadsides. One can also meet a flock of sheep or a herd of cows. Horse riding is an absolute must experience in Glen Austin. As you meander along the undulating hills, take in the fresh air and the fantastic scenery.
