Mill
Park, Port Elizabeth: Known as Port Elizabeths garden suburb because of the
leafy streets and large gardens, Mill Park lies in the heart of the city, close to
Greenacres Shopping centre, the Port Elizabeth golf club and St Georges Park.
Residents speak about the special quality of Mill Park - the minimal traffic that makes it
safe enough for children to ride in the streets and for people to walk their dogs. And the
large upmarket homes, many of them restored Victorian and Tudor-style mansions; do indeed
give visitors the impression of having stepped back in time.
St Georges Park, the grounds of the second oldest cricket club in South Africa, is
today home to a world-class 18 500-seater stadium, set in some of the most beautiful
grounds of St Georges Park, right in the middle of the friendly city. The site too
of the Manville Open Air Theatre - used once a year by the Port Elizabeth Shakespearean
Festival - St Georges Park also has two art galleries next to the Cenotaph, and a
monthly art in the park market. Besides being the oldest park in Port
Elizabeth, it also has swimming baths, which include an Olympic-size with a diving area,
and a childrens pool for days when the beach is a little too windy.
