Lorraine
The landmark pier at Shark Rock in Port Elizabeth

Lorraine, along with Theescombe and Sherwood, is one of the fastest growing suburbs of the city known as both the friendly and the windy city. It sits to the west of the central business district, close to neighbouring suburbs of Kragga Kamma Park and Lovemore Heights, and south of the Kagga Kamma Road - one of the major thoroughfares through this part of Port Elizabeth.

There are many advantages to a stay in Lorraine, not least of which is a trip into the city centre - a must to experience the beautiful architecture, the people and the main beaches. Other advantages are your proximity to Seaview and Sardinia Bay, as well as wonderful day trips to the Kragga Kamma Game Reserve, Donkin Reserve and the Seaview Game and Lion Park.

The beaches on what is known as the 'wildside' coast of Port Elizabeth include places like Willows, Kini Bay, Seaview, Schoenmakerskop and Sardinia Bay. Kini Bay in particular is not well known and some lovely little rock pools make it ideal for children. It lies just before Seaview. Maitlands beach is remote, wild and a feast of sand and dunes. It is best visited together with a trip to the Seaview Game and Lion Park, where you can get up close and cuddly with lion cubs. The park is essentially a breeding project for white lions, although you will also see tigers and 'normal' lions there.

The coastline between Sardinia and Seaview is an incredible collection of sand dunes and a mecca for sand boarding - it is one of winter's best kept secrets and a reason to head to this part of the world, simply to have the beaches to yourself and to soak up sun despite colder weather. Make time too to take in the Donkin Reserve and its famous memorial pyramid and lighthouse.
