Linkside, Port Elizabeth
Linkside is a verdant, pretty neighbourhood in the heart of Port Elizabeth. It is characterised by the wide streets that are flanked by tall, leafy trees and broad grassy pavements. The homes here tend towards the luxurious, and are beautiful to explore when taking a leisurely stroll around the block.
Although this is a quiet, residential suburb, it is close to the business epicentres of Cape Road and Greenacres. In fact, it takes less than three minutes to reach Cape Road while driving, and would take around 15 minutes to walk there. The many guest houses and Bed & Breakfast establishments in and around Linkside, coupled with this close proximity to the business district, make it the ideal place for corporate travellers and holiday-makers alike.
Greenacres Shopping Centre (which includes The Bridge) is Port Elizabeth’s largest and busiest mall. It is bursting with restaurants, coffee shops, supermarket chains, boutique stores, international labels, bargain busters, jewellers, and everything in-between. There are Ster Kinekor cinemas situated here, which include 3-D facilities for certain films. This means that young and old can spend days on end shopping, dining and being entertained; only a few minutes from their Linkside accommodation.
The beautiful beaches for which the Friendly City is known are a mere 10-minute drive from Linkside. These include Kings Beach, Hobie Beach and the esteemed Humewood Beach. The warm waters, long sandy stretches and safe swimming conditions of the Bay are irresistible in the balmy summer months.
In cooler weather, walk or job along the promenade and enjoy the fantastic views. This beachfront is home to many restaurants, hotels, cocktail bars and The Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex. This complex is a hive of excitement. Musical shows are often hosted here, and the nightly laser light display comes highly recommended. It is also home to an African market, where curios and keepsakes are on offer.
The Port Elizabeth Airport is approximately 15 minutes’ drive from Linkside, making it even more convenient for those who need to be collected from or dropped off at the airport.
The Port Elizabeth Golf Course is one of the oldest in the country, and is conveniently situated in Linkside. It is beautiful, and very popular amongst locals that want to enjoy the scenic splendour of PE without having to go very far at all. This is an 18-hole course.
Linkside combines convenience with an undeniable sense of being in a pretty retreat away from the ‘real world’.
