Black Rhino photographed in the Lephalale regionEllisras, Limpopo: Ellisras, also know as Lephalale: Lephalale is a fast-growing town on the banks of the Mogol River. Ellisras is the last stopover for safaris en-route to Botswana and the Okavango Delta. The region is world famous among hunters and is also known for excellent fishing in the nearby Mokolo Dam. The Mogol Golf Course is one of the best in the region.

Ellisras / Lephalale has one of the largest open grove coalmines in the world. The coal mine is called Grootgeluk. The coal provides fuel for Matimba, one of the biggest air-cooled electrical powerplants in the world.

There are several private game reserves in the Lephalale area. Wildlife is particularly abundant in this region and visitors are likely to see most of the big five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino). Activities include bird watching from well-concealed hides, game drives in open vehicles and guided walks with professional rangers.
